About second-hand Brushing machines

Brushing machines

Brushing machines (also called cleaning machines) are used to clean fruit and vegetables, in most cases without the use of water. Fruits and vegetables are generally brushed prior to being graded. They are therefore often installed in the processing line, just before a grading machine. One of the most important things to think about before selecting a new or used brushing machine is how susceptible the fruit or vegetable you are growing is to damage. Brushes for delicate products, like apples with tomatoes, are softer than those for more robust products like potatoes.

Potato cleaning machine

When potatoes are harvested, a lot of soil generally sticks to them. The potato cleaning machine brushes these remnants of soil and sand from the potatoes. The best results are achieved when the soil clinging to the potatoes is dry (for example after they are taken from the storage area). These soil remnants can then easily be brushed off. If the brushing machine is used on the potatoes immediately after harvesting chances are that clods of soil will be smeared all over the potatoes. This is, of course, not desirable! Please note: brushing a potato clean produces a different result in comparison to washing one in a drum washing machine.

The brushes of a potato cleaning machine are rather hard. Potato brushing machines can be adjusted in various ways. The angle can be adjusted (upwards or downwards), which will cause the potatoes to remain beneath the brushes longer for prolonged cleaning. Potato cleaning machines can also be used to clean other fruits and vegetables, like oranges and lychees.

Brushing machine for fruit and vegetables with soft brushes

Fruit and vegetables that are more susceptible to damage are cleaned with a brushing machine with softer brushes. Such products include sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, tomatoes, mangoes, avocados and apples. Brushing machines for these products can be equipped with spraying nozzles for an even better result.
