To accommodate the increasing demand for fresh, ready-to-cook (washed and sliced) vegetables, more and more farmers and vegetable growers are opting for added value by washing their vegetables. This can be done by using one of various types of vegetable washers. 

Differences between vegetable washers

As many different types of vegetable washers have been developed in the course of time as there are different types of vegetables. Most are specifically developed for one type of vegetable, such as leek washers, asparagus washers and lettuce washers. However, there are also more universal washing machines for vegetable available, which can be used to wash multiple types of vegetables. A drum washing machine can be used for potatoes, carrots, parsnip and red beets, for example. 

The way in which the product is washed depends largely on its susceptibility to damage. Vegetable washers can be provided with spraying equipment (high-pressure or otherwise), a water basin and/or brushes. Additionally, vegetable washers of the same type can differ with regard to capacity, product-friendliness and accessories.
