About second-hand machines for Strawberries

The fruit we know as the strawberry is grown on a strawberry plant. You will find machines that can be used to grow the fruit of strawberry plants on this page.

Machines for growing strawberries

Strawberries can be grown in different ways: outside in the open field, on racks, in tunnels or in greenhouses. The method chosen will determine whether or not certain activities can be mechanised. However, a large amount of the work will still need to be done manually, such as harvesting. Nevertheless, there is equipment available to help you, such as harvesting carts on wheels or on a pipe-rail system.

Strawberry packaging machines

Strawberries are directly packaged in cartons during the picking process. More and more consumers and supermarkets attach value to good packaging. This is because good packaging increases saleability and extends shelf life. The cartons can be packaged using a packaging machine for trays, such as a flow pack machine (a type of bottom sealer) or a topseal machine.

Open field transplanters for strawberries

Various machines can be used to transplant strawberry seedlings, such as the Super Prefer planter with eight large spoons or a Basrijs disc planter. Workers put the seedlings in the spoons or the disc, after which the planter puts them in the soil and presses them into place. After a strawberry plant has been planted, it is crucial for its growth that the soil around it is sufficiently moist.

The plants are sometimes covered with plastic foil for additional warmth. This causes the plants to start growing earlier. Once the initial growing stage has been completed the plastic foil is removed. The plants can be covered with plastic foil using a plastic foil laying machine and the foil can subsequently be removed using a foil winding machine.

Machines for multiplying strawberry plants

In spring, a few plants are per square metre are planted for multiplication purposes. To promote this, all the energy a plant puts into growth and multiplication of the plant itself must be curbed. In other words: the plant must be prevented from putting its energy into producing strawberries.

There is plenty of labour-saving equipment available for growing strawberries. Some of these machines have been developed specially for cutting vines, lifting vines or cultivating mother plants. There are also special processing lines and grading machines for strawberry plants.

Strawberry harvesters

Before the strawberry plants are harvested, the vines are cut and the plants are mowed to ensure they are not too big. After that, a bed harvester (e.g. a Basrijs plant harvester) will lift the plants up out of the soil. This machine reaches beneath the roots and moves diagonally upwards until the end of the machine is reached. Agitators on the harvester sieve all the soil from the strawberries until there is hardly any soil left in between the plants. At the end of the harvester the plants are transported to a trailer that runs alongside it. The strawberry plants can also be loaded directly onto crates.

You will find our current range of used machines for strawberries on this page. Our staff will be happy to help you select the machine for strawberries that is best suited to your specifications.
