Got a machine for sale?

We are constantly looking for good quality agricultural and horticultural machinery.

About second-hand machines for Potatoes

Due to scaling up, potatoes are grown and processed on an increasingly large scale. Here, machine capacity is going to play an increasing role, as planting, harvesting, sorting and processing of more and more hectares/tonnes has to be done in the same time frame.

This increased scale has started in fries and ware potatoes, but is also continuing in niche markets, such as seed potatoes.

The demand for the higher capacity of machines is causing a shift in the market. Thus, in the Netherlands, well-functioning machines are exchanged for larger versions. The used and smaller machines for potatoes are then often exported towards Eastern Europe, Russia or Africa.

Duijndam Machines specialises in exporting such used machines for potatoes.

Every day, we are actively looking for high-quality machines for growing, processing and sorting potatoes. As a result, here on this page you will find a wide range of used planting machines, harvesting machines, storage machines, potato sorting machines, washing machines, packaging machines and conveyor belts.

Are you looking for a machine for potatoes? Then read more about these types of machines below. Do you have questions about a specific machine? Then please contact one of our specialists.

Potato planting machine

Growing potatoes starts with planting a seed potato. Unlike other vegetables, potatoes are not sown or planted in cuttings, but a seed potato is placed in the ground, then soil is placed over it. This creates the typical potato ridges.

Potato tubers are planted between February and May using a potato planting machine. This planter puts the seed potato in the ground, after which the machine covers the potato with a layer of soil. Potato harvesting machines

Autumn is the time for machine harvesting, where large quantities of potatoes are harvested in a relatively short time. The largest manufacturers of potato harvesters are Grimme, Dewulf and AVR. Their machines mostly harvest potatoes in 2 to 4 rows at once. The harvesting mat of the harvester then separates the potatoes from the ground. If necessary, remaining soil and haulm can still be removed with axial rollers, multisep or a pintle belt. The potatoes then end up in a bunker (bunker harvester) or tipping wagon (wagon harvester with elevator). The current range of used potato harvesting machines can be found on this page.

Storage machines

After harvesting, potatoes are stored in a storage shed. They can either be stored loose or in cubic crates. Cold storage keeps the potatoes fresh for a long time. To get the potatoes into the storage shed, various storage machines are used, such as hoppersduo beltsstore loaders and box loaders. These machines allow you to easily store large quantities of potatoes as well as onions in a short time.

Do you store potatoes in cubic crates? Then a box filler can significantly speed up box filling.

Potato washing machine

Before potatoes can be sold in a supermarket, they have to be washed. Drum washing machines are used for washing potatoes. These washing machines wash potatoes in a rotating drum. Often, the speed of the drum is adjustable. Depending on the type of washing machine, it may be equipped with a de-stoner, water pump or with soil discharge belts/augers.

In many cases, these drum washing machines can also be used to wash other vegetables such as carrots, beets and celeriac.

Fries machines

A large proportion of potatoes are processed into fries or other potato products, such as potato croquettes, mashed potatoes, potato slices, potato sections, crisps and rösti. With some regularity, Duijndam Machines also has used machines in its range for making fries.

Fries line

After washing the potatoes, they go into a peeling machine. The potatoes are then cut into fries in a cutting machine. The cutting machines, which work with water pressure, have a higher capacity here. The narrow pieces are removed by a sliver remover or by a sorter for the short pieces. To ensure good quality, an optical sorting machine can be used to sort out fries with discolourations. These discoloured pieces can be cut out of the fries by a special machine.

Potato packaging machines

Potatoes are generally sorted by size. For sorting potatoes, potato sorting machines are used. The ware potatoes are eventually sold in packs of a few kilograms. These machines sort the potatoes by a pre-set weight, e.g. 1 kg per batch.

Now the potatoes have been harvested, washed and sorted and it is time for the final step; packaging. In this process, ware potatoes are weighed to the desired weight by a weighing machine, after which they can be packed immediately. Generally, potatoes are packed in nets, plastic or cardboard bags. An up-to-date overview of all available packaging machines can be found here.
