About second-hand machines for Cherries
Cherry cultivation is a branch of fruit farming that requires both craftsmanship and patience, resulting in the delicious and juicy cherries we know and love. The cultivation of cherries takes place in temperate climates around the world, including parts of Europe, North America, and Asia. Growing cherries is not a simple task; it demands specific climatic conditions, a good understanding of soil quality, and precise care throughout the year.
From selecting the right variety and planting young trees to carefully pruning and protecting against diseases and pests, every aspect of cherry cultivation contributes to a successful harvest. Cherries are a very delicate product, requiring careful cultivation, harvesting, and processing. For this reason, cherries are often harvested by hand. While there are harvesting machines available for specific cherry varieties, hand-picking remains common.
Maintenance and Care
Pruning is an important part of cherry cultivation. Young trees are regularly pruned to develop a strong structure, while mature trees are pruned to remove diseased or damaged branches and promote good air circulation. Regular irrigation is crucial, especially during dry periods. A drip irrigation system is often used to ensure efficient water delivery without wetting the leaves and fruits. Additionally, cherry trees need periodic fertilization to support good growth and fruiting. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the primary nutrients, supplemented with micronutrients like magnesium and calcium.
Cherry trees are susceptible to various diseases and pests, such as cherry fruit flies, aphids, and fungal infections like powdery mildew and Monilinia. Regular inspections, the use of biological control methods, and, if necessary, chemical pesticides are essential to keep the trees healthy.
Cherries are usually hand-harvested to prevent damage to the delicate fruit. Harvest time varies depending on the variety and climate but typically falls between late June and early July. It is important to harvest cherries at the right time when they are fully ripe, as they do not ripen further after picking.
To make the rest of the cherry cultivation and processing as efficient as possible, machines are employed. These include machines for sorting, packaging, and transporting cherries.
On this page, you will find all the second-hand machines for cherries that we currently have in stock. Our inventory constantly changes, so if you're looking for a used cherry machine, we recommend signing up for our email alerts to be the first to know when a new cherry machine becomes available online.
Cherry Sorting Machines
After harvesting, accurate sorting is important to guarantee the highest quality cherries. Our sorting machines offer options for sorting by size, color, and quality, ensuring efficient processing and packaging.
Often, cherries are already sorted by hand during harvesting based on appearance. Rotten, unripe, or otherwise defective cherries are removed. Most cherries are then sorted by size using a sorting machine.
The operation of these machines is simple. Size-sorting machines often work with rollers with holes in them, or with strings where the space between the strings widens from start to finish. Regardless of which type you choose, in both machines, the smallest cherries fall through the holes first, where they collect in different crates, leaving the largest ones behind.
Cherry Packaging Machines
Cherries can be packaged in (plastic) trays. If you want to sell your cherries directly to, for example, a supermarket, it is important to choose the right packaging machine. Most cherries are packaged in plastic or cardboard trays, which are then sealed with a top-seal machine or packed with a flow-pack machine.
Top Seal for Cherries in Plastic Trays
Cherries can be sold in plastic trays that are sealed from above with a layer of foil. Top-seal machines are used to seal the trays. These machines fill the trays with a pre-set amount of cherries, after which a layer of foil is sealed on top.
Flow-Pack for Cherries
Another way to package cherries is with a flow-pack machine. This method is used for cherries sold in cardboard trays, which are then wrapped in plastic. Since you can't seal foil onto cardboard, the entire cardboard tray is wrapped in a closed package. Horizontal flow-pack machines are used for this type of packaging.
