About second-hand machines for Berries
Berries are popular fruits, which creates high demand for them. Among the berry family, there are various types, but the most popular and profitable berries include strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. These berries are extensively cultivated and can be harvested between June and autumn, depending on the type being grown. Some berries, like raspberries, require nearly daily harvesting during the picking season. One commonality among all berries is that they must be harvested when fully ripe, as unlike some other fruits, berries do not ripen further after being picked.
One thing all berries share is their delicate nature, requiring careful cultivation, harvesting, and processing. This is why berries are often still harvested by hand. While there are harvesting machines available for specific types of berries, manual harvesting remains prevalent.
To make the rest of the berry growing and processing process as efficient as possible, machines are used. This includes sorting, packaging, and transporting the berries.
On this page, you will find all the second-hand berry machines currently in our inventory. Our stock constantly changes, so if you are looking for a used berry machine, we recommend signing up for our email alerts to be the first to know when a new berry machine becomes available online.
Sorting Machines for Berries
After harvesting, it's important to sort these fruits, as there can be significant differences in size among them. Larger variants often fetch higher prices, making sorting crucial to maximize your yield.
Many berries, such as blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries, are first manually sorted on a conveyor belt based on their visual characteristics after harvesting. Rotten, unripe, or otherwise defective berries are removed. Subsequently, most berries are sorted by size using a sorting machine.
The operation of these machines is straightforward yet highly effective. Size-sorting machines often use rollers with perforations or belts where the gap between the strings widens from start to finish. Whichever variant you choose, the smallest berries fall through the gaps first, leaving the largest ones behind.
Packaging Machines for Berries
Berries are sold loose or packed in containers such as plastic trays. If you choose to sell your berries packed, selecting the right packaging machine is crucial. Most berries are packed in plastic or cardboard trays, which are then sealed either with a top-seal machine or wrapped with a flow-pack machine. Berries destined for freezing are often packed in plastic bags.
Top-Seal for Berries in Plastic Trays
Many popular berries like blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are sold in plastic trays sealed with a layer of film on top. Top-seal machines are used for this purpose. These machines fill the trays with a predetermined amount of berries before sealing them with a layer of film.
Flow-Pack for Berries
Another method of packaging berries is with a flow-pack machine, commonly used for berries sold in cardboard trays that need wrapping. Since foil cannot be sealed directly onto cardboard, the entire tray is enclosed in a sealed package. Horizontal flow-pack machines are used for this type of packaging.
Frozen berries are also often packed in plastic packaging created with vertical flow-packers. The product is placed into the packaging, which is then sealed at the top.
Transportation Equipment for Berries
Between harvesting, packaging, and sale, berries require frequent transportation. Equipment like transport carts and conveyors are used for this purpose.
Transport Carts for Berries
After harvesting, berries need to be transported to storage or sorting/packaging machines. Electric transport carts are used by berry farms for easy movement of crates stacked with berries. These carts have flat loading surfaces to accommodate berry crates efficiently.
Used Conveyor Belts
Flat conveyor belts are extensively used in berry cultivation to transport berries to sorting machines. These belts can be adjusted for speed so that sorters can remove berries with irregularities before size sorting.
